Meet Kellie. She is an awesome Volunteer Driver! She works fulltime and drives for us on her days off as well as before and after her work shift if time allows her to. She is always willing to help and we appreciate her and all she does for our mission. This is what Kellie had to say:
Why I Volunteer? It gives me a sense of self-worth knowing that I have something that others don't and that I can help them to get where they need to go. It helps the community in a major way especially since Oswego County is on the lower economic spectrum. We don't rank very well with a lot of things within the state. I am a community oriented person and always look for ways to help out. VTC is a good program and I feel it is essential for Oswego County, especially with the number of people who don't own vehicles and have a means of transportation. That is why I Volunteer my time. Want to be like Kellie? Call Doreen, at 315-644-6944. She will be happy to speak with you and answer any questions you may have about becoming a Volunteer Driver. Volunteers get reimbursed .585 cents a mile. This reimbursement does not affect any Social Security benefits, SNAP or HEAP. Volunteers choose their schedules, hours and days of the week they want to Volunteer. It’s a great way to give back and to know you are helping the community in which you live. Call Doreen today and let’s get you on the road with VTC! Meet Dennis. He has been a Volunteer for nearly 2 years. He was recently chosen as our 1st Volunteer Driver of the Quarter!! We are so thankful for him and all he does for VTC!
This is what Dennis has to say about being a Volunteer I enjoy driving for Volunteer Transportation for so many reasons. I encourage you to consider volunteer driving with Volunteer Transportation. I get to help people. One of the biggest problems in Oswego County is Transportation; how do people get to medical appointments, to visits, or to their job? I get to be part of the solution; I take them to medical appointments, or to visits, or to their job. It feels good helping people. I get to meet new people. The people are friendly and appreciative, and I enjoy driving them. Volunteer driving feels more like visiting friends and taking them for a drive. I get to see new places. Oswego County is beautiful, and without Volunteer Transportation I probably would never have seen many of the beautiful scenery and communities surrounding us. I get to set my own schedule. I let Volunteer Transportation know what hours that I want to drive, and I let them know if I want to drive few miles or a lot of miles, and we work out the drives. Local drives only? Sure? Daylight driving only? Sure. One day a week? Sure. Five days a week? Sure. I love the flexibility. I get to make a little spending money. Volunteer Transportation reimburses me "per mile". The miles add up to a nice reimbursement, and it is not taxable, and it never counts against my Social Security. Driving for Volunteer Transportation is a great source of extra income while meeting people and seeing the beautiful sites of our county, on a schedule that works for me. What could be better? I am happy to drive for Volunteer Transportation, and I am proud to be helping others by being a volunteer driver. I highly recommend Volunteer Transportation. I hope you enjoy volunteer driving as much as I do. Dennis Merlino If you're interested in joining Dennis, call 315-644-6944 and ask for Doreen. |
